Discover Bhutan – The Magical Kingdom Tour

4 Days / 3 Nights

Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights

Bhutan is the only nation that measures progress by Gross National Happiness rather than GDP — home to Thimphu, the world’s only capital without a traffic light, the golden valley of Punakha, and Taktsang, the Tiger’s Nest.

Sacred dzongs, butter-lamp offerings, farmhouse life and conversations with young monks — Bhutan doesn’t just impress travellers, it shifts something in them.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Paro

Touch down in Paro valley, 2,200m up in the Himalaya, where your private Bhutanese guide welcomes you with a white scarf of auspiciousness. En route to Thimphu, pause at Tachog Lhakhang’s iron chain bridge and light 108 butter lamps at Wangsisina Nunnery for blessings and good fortune.

As evening nears, climb to Kuenselphodrang for sunset over Thimphu valley beneath the towering Buddha Dordenma, then wind down through pine forest on the short Wangditse hike.

Round off the day at Dechen Phodrang monastery — home to 300 young monks and wall paintings dating to the 12th century — before a leisurely stroll through Thimphu’s market streets.

Overnight: Hotel in Thimphu

Day 2: The Golden Punakha Valley

On the way, stop at Dochula Pass (3,100m), ringed by 108 memorial chortens, for a panoramic view of the high Himalaya over coffee — among them, on a clear day, Gangkar Puensum, Bhutan’s highest peak. Hoist prayer flags and offer incense here for good fortune.

In Punakha, walk through Yuwakha village to the Temple of the Divine Madman, then visit Punakha Dzong — the “Palace of Great Bliss,” its carved halls set between two rivers — before crossing Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge over the Pho Chhu and strolling the village beyond.

Overnight: Hotel in Punakha

Day 3: Hike to the Tiger’s Nest

Retrace the route to Paro for a second glimpse of the Himalaya from Dochula Pass, then set off on foot through pine forest to Taktsang — the Tiger’s Nest — perched 900m above the valley floor. Legend holds that Guru Rinpoche, revered as the second Buddha in Bhutan, arrived here on a tigress’s back in the 8th century, meditated for three months, and blessed the site — bringing tantric Buddhism to the kingdom.

In the evening, a traditional farmhouse dinner.

Overnight: Hotel in Paro

Day 4: Departure

Transfer to Paro International Airport, bidding farewell to the Kingdom of Bhutan.
