Mount Ararat, with its incredible 5,137 meters, is not only the highest mountain in Turkey but also one of the largest volcanic massifs on our planet, rising above the lowlands of eastern Anatolia. It is a legendary mountain and is believed to be where Noah’s Ark came to rest.

It offers magnificent views of three countries: Turkey, Armenia, and Iran. Its ascent is not technically demanding, and any experienced hiker who is confident in their steps and good physical condition can conquer this mountain.

This thrilling adventure also provides an opportunity to experience the nature of Eastern Anatolia, its culture, and, of course, the wonderful Turkish cuisine.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Turkey

After landing in Istanbul, we will connect with a domestic flight to the city of Van. Upon arrival, we will transfer by road for 2 hours to Dogubeyazit.

We will enjoy a traditional Turkish welcome dinner and spend the night there.

Day 2: Camp 1

After breakfast, we will proceed to the charming village of Eli, which is the starting point for our trekking adventure at an elevation of 2200m at the foot of the mountain.

Here, the porters will take care of our equipment and transfer it to the camp using mules. In the afternoon, we will do a short ascent to acclimatize ourselves to the altitude.

Elevation gained: 2200m to 3200m

Day 3: Acclimatization

Today we hike up to Terskol Peak and the astronomical Observatory (3090m) to adjust our bodies to high altitudes.

We will start in a pleasant forest before walking up to a beautiful waterfall where you can revive yourself. Bring your swimwear for a refreshing dip.

In the afternoon, we will prepare the bags to head up and leave the hotel the next day.

Day 4: Camp 2

We will take the cable car to the lift station to reach our huts at 3800 m. We will find some snow and the landscapes will become even more beautiful.

After lunch, we will put our crampons on and head to Priyut Eleven Hut for an acclimatization hike (4100m)

Day 5: Summit Day

An exciting day ahead with an acclimatization hike to the Pastukhova Rocks (4800), as well as snow & ice technics training and a self-arrest course for those who need it.

We will rest in the huts, prepare gear, and have an early night to prepare for the summit push

Day 6: Back to civilization

From Camp 1, we will return to Dogubeyazit. Today, we will visit the magnificent Ishak Pasha Palace, sitting at the highest point of a rock. The ruins of this castle-fortress complex are an impressive cultural relic of the region.

In the afternoon, we offer you the opportunity for one last excursion. On the mountain flank of Mount Tendürek Dağ, you will find the second-largest crater in the world. It is believed that the legendary Noah’s Ark was found here.

We will celebrate our achievements with a Turkish dinner.

Day 7: Istanbul

In case of bad weather, a day is reserved to ensure more chances to summit.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to the international airport and return home, filled with achievements, memories, and adventures..
