Approach

Why us & what we do better

We climb the quieter South Face with an experienced local mountain guide, keep groups small, and build in proper acclimatization days — no rushing a 5,642m summit.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Mineralyne Vody

Land in Mineralnye Vody and transfer to the Hotel in Baksan Valley- Terksol (about three hour’s drive)

After a late-night arrival, catch some sleep at the hotel to prepare yourself for the following day.

Day 2: Hike to Cheget Peak

After breakfast at the hotel, we will do an acclimatization trek to Cheget Peak (3460m), which will take 4-5 hours.

After some rest, we will have a briefing with the guide, a mountaineering gear check, and go to the rental place, if necessary, to collect your equipment.

You can then relax around Terskol town, a popular ski destination.

Day 3: Hike to Terskol Peak and Obervatory

Today we hike up to Terskol Peak and the astronomical Observatory (3090m) to adjust our bodies to high altitudes.

We will start in a pleasant forest before walking up to a beautiful waterfall where you can revive yourself. Bring your swimwear for a refreshing dip.

In the afternoon, we will prepare the bags to head up and leave the hotel the next day.

Day 4: Ascent to High Camp

We will take the cable car to the lift station to reach our huts at 3800 m. We will find some snow and the landscapes will become even more beautiful.

After lunch, we will put our crampons on and head to Priyut Eleven Hut for an acclimatization hike (4100m)

Day 5: Hike to the Pastukhova Rocks

An exciting day ahead with an acclimatization hike to the Pastukhova Rocks (4800), as well as snow & ice technics training and a self-arrest course for those who need it.

We will rest in the huts, prepare gear, and have an early night to prepare for the summit push

Day 6: Summit Day

After a very early breakfast at 2 am, the group will be picked up by a snowcat and be taken to start the summit attempt at 4800m.

Reaching the summit will take around 6 hours.  You can expect low temperatures, fixed ropes in steep areas, and an unforgettable sunrise.

We will descend to the huts to pack our bags and take the lift to Terskol where we can celebrate.

Day 7: Reserved

In case of bad weather, a day is reserved to ensure more chances to summit.

Day 8: Departure

Morning transfer to Mineralnye Vody. Option at extra cost to visit the Hot Springs.

Transfer to the airport and end of the trip.

I’ve now travelled with Thin Air Trips twice — to Torres del Paine and Kyrgyzstan — and both trips were absolutely incredible. Two very different destinations, but equally unforgettable adventures!

One of the best things about travelling with them is that they take care of everything. From planning the itinerary to organising accommodation, transport and all the logistics along the way, they make the whole experience feel easy. There’s so much that goes into organising trips like these, and having it all managed means you can relax, enjoy the adventure and focus on the places you’ve come to explore.

Torres del Paine was spectacular, and Kyrgyzstan was another amazing experience, with breathtaking mountains and landscapes that will stay with me for a long time. Both trips gave me so many special moments and memories that I’ll always treasure.

For me, the real value of Thin Air Trips is being able to experience these extraordinary destinations without the stress of coordinating everything myself. You get all the excitement of an adventure, with the reassurance that the details are taken care of.

The fact that I booked a second trip after my first probably says it all! I would happily travel with them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a well-organised, memorable adventure. An easy five stars!

I had a fantastic experience travelling to Russia to summit Mt Elbrus. Isa has been really communicative and helpful. I had a lot of hestitations about travelling to the region, but all went smooth and the entire trip was amazing. The team on ground were also just as professional and helpful, really helping to take off the logitical pressure and allowing me to focus on the summit.
